Adding TJunction mechanic
Trifoil is an in development line drawing puzzle game. It's due to be released on itch.io and steam for PC. Follow Trifoil development as I take it from a prototype to a full featured Indie game by following me on itch.io, twitter or discord. With that out of the way enjoy the devlog.
I've added a new mechanic I'm calling "TJunction" the rules are:
- If the tail has entered and exited a TJunction tile and you move back on the TJunction tile. You enter the tail.
- Once you have entered your tail, you can only move back and forward your own tail, you cannot exit your tail unless on a TJunction cell with a exit available.
It will make sense when you play it.
Designing introduction puzzles that are still a bit changeling to them has been difficult. It seems to be easier problem space when you can move along your own tail, making puzzles easy to solve and hard to design. But some interesting patterns have emerged. I'm thinking this mechanic will play best when mixed with other mechanics, which will be introduced in the mid game puzzles. I'm also interested to see how this mechanics feels when it's in "free" form. That's getting implemented next. Once the free form TJunction mechanic and it's introduction area is done. I'll move on to making mid-game puzzles. I am slowing getting through the next iteration of Trifoil.
Stay tuned.
