Log 17: Puzzle count == 47
Trifoil is an underdevelopment puzzle/exploration game which takes influence for The Witness and Knot Theory. It's due to be released early 2023 on itch.io and steam. In the mean time follow Trifoil development as I take it from a prototype to a full featured Indie game by following me on itch.io or twitter. With that out of the way enjoy the devlog.
Hello, I've been busy getting the first area ready for the alpha. I want the alpha to have one area that has a production level puzzle count, while the other areas will have a smaller puzzle count in the alpha. This is for two reasons, the first is to get enough playable content so play testers can provide gameplay feedback. The second reason is I need enough "game" complete for a trailer.
I'm pleased the puzzle count is 47 for area 1. This is very close to my goal of having ~50 puzzles/area in the shipped game! Doing a complete play through, with some exceptions only the first few puzzles needed rework. I'm pretty happy with the design of the puzzles so far. But we'll see what feedback I get from the alpha.
Other things I've done is improve how the camera switches in and out of puzzles and tuned how it follows the player through the level. I've also added some unlockable short cuts and am in the process of adding more asset . Also the laser barrier is now wired up to puzzles. In other puzzle game news, I've had the pleasure of play testing Taiji a pixel art puzzle/exploration game by Matthew VanDevander. I'm really enjoying it, one of the best puzzle games I've ever played. If it's not on your wish list head over to steam and add it. Trust me it's a gem.
